Hi @MeowyCats2,

I asked you to contact SRE as you may have noticed your bot has had issues since the 21st of the month.

We moved behind cloudflare and your bot got caught in a block.

At the moment, it remains limited because its request rate is extremely high.

Would it be possible for you to significantly reduce it or can you provide more information about your usage so we can look at alternatives?

What should the ideal request rate be?

Can you advise what you are using it for?

I'm using the bot to send previews of edits to Discord.

Is there any reason this can't be moved to our discord notifications extension?

I really don't think this is an issue; it wasn't an issue before we moved to Cloudflare, and there were no issues—I don't see why it would become an issue suddenly now? Also not everyone wants to use that extension.

Hi,

The original block was placed by another SRE via blocking ASNs. I lifted this block and replaced it with blocks that are more targeted.

I've left it in place because I agree with it. The current usage puts the bot in the top 5 requestors and top 3 legitimate requestors.

I'm not mandating the DiscordNotifications extension. If it can't be done via the DiscordNotifcations extension then I'd like the rate to be reasonable to the task.

That's for discussions based on the exact usage what is reasonable. It doesn't have to be a huge drop in how often it's checking too.

@MeowyCats2: Have you had a chance to check out if the DiscordNotifications extension will meet your requirements or would you prefer to discuss an acceptable rate?

The DiscordNotifications extension doesn't show the contents of the edits, which makes it harder to moderate the wiki.

Okay, if the diff from the DiscordNotifications isn't enough for you. Would you be able to reduce it to once every 5 seconds from the once every second it is now? That shouldn't really add any delay given the wiki seems rarely edited but will reduce the number of requests a lot.

Please comment on task once that's done and I will remove the ban

The drop in requests is very visible. This is now resolved as I've removed the ban.

Please do consider setting a descriptive user agent with contact details in future to make it easier to reach you.
