Create db162 (or db172?) and migrate core databases there
Closed, DeclinedPublic

Description

After db131 crashed and wiped out metawiki, mhglobal, and loginwiki which had the effect of taking down the entire farm, it has become evident we need to separate these core databases from any regular production MySQL server and migrate them to their own server.

For this reason, I propose a db162 or db172, depending on which we think is more suitable (both have the resources). I estimate we should give them around 100-150GBs of space (or even 50GBs if you want to be stingy!). Currently, metawiki takes up 19GBs, mhglobal 2.3GBs and loginwiki 1.3GBs for a total of 22.6GBs

I think we can be stingy and just give 50GB tbh, I doubt metawiki will get too much bigger.

I've been thinking... would this actually solve anything? The new global DB could still go down and take down the farm... however I do suppose it would be less likely...

What resources do you propose, CPU and RAM wise?

(Question) would the betaglobal and metawikibeta databases be moved to the new server as well, or stay on db171?

This won't be done for now at all. I don't think this will actually solve anything.
