"Secure connection failed" error for obeymewiki
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

For some reason, and I don't know what the variables are, but in too many cases if I type into my address bar "obeymewiki.com" and I don't manually add "www" in front, I get this error:

SecureSite.png (850×720 px, 93 KB)

I would like to know why this happens, and more importantly, I would like to know if there is some way to fix this? The problem seems to be that the browser does not redirect people from "obeymewiki.com" to "www.obeymewiki.com" By default, anyone typing in "obeymewiki.com" should automatically be redirected to the wiki's proper main page, and while sometimes that happens, it really should be something that always happens.

If needed, I use Firefox as my browser, but that doesn't seem to matter, as I use Firefox on both desktop and mobile, but am only properly redirected when I am on desktop.

It seems that www.obeymewiki.com goes to the correct page, whereas obeymewiki.com redirects to miraheze.org. This should be a simple fix, I believe.

It is working as expected. In T8959 you requested for www.obeymewiki.com to be set as the custom domain for wiki. We never did anything with the root domain.

Oh, I didn't realize that requests needed to be very specific. I assumed that if "www.obeymewiki.com" was the set custom domain, then anyone typing in "obeymewiki.com" would get the same treatment as those who didn't. Most people don't bother manually adding the "www" after all.

Is there a way to have both versions with and without "www" be redirected?

Which one would you like as your main one?

I guess I would like "obeymewiki.com" as my main URL. But if that is the main, does that mean that anyone who does type in "www.obeymewiki.com" will encounter the "secure connection failed" error instead? I really don't know much about how domains work. However, to the average person, a URL with or without the "www" are synonymous and interchangeable, so to ensure everyone looking for a wiki can find it, it seems rather important that both versions get people where they need to go.

Edit: I'm coming back because I realized I might have misunderstood the question. I still want the wiki pages to look like this: https://www.obeymewiki.com/wiki/Main

What I want changed is to have anyone that types in "obeymewiki.com" in the address bar to be redirected to the same main page URL that my wiki has currently.
